Dreaming of Far Off Places

While having dinner with friends this weekend, one of them asked the classic question, "If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?"  Every time I'm asked this question, I love thinking about the possibilities... I mean if I could go anywhere?!?!!  Tonight my answer was Lake Como, Italy.  I was dreaming of beautiful views, delicious food, fantastic wine, and friendly people.  I'm sure another night my answer will be a different enticing destination.  What would your answer be?  ...the possibilities are endless!

The question also got me thinking about the places I've traveled.  So, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite places (fantastic photos taken by my husband, Karl).  Maybe they will inspire your travel dreams or perhaps even bring back memories?

Little Bunny

Have you always wanted a furry friend but your landlord has a strict no-pets policy? Or, like me, did your friend just have a baby and you wanted to make something cute to help them celebrate her birth? This little guy is it. He's a smaller version of a pattern I found here. I only had size 5 dpn's on hand, so I crossed my fingers, cast-on the same number of stitches in the pattern, and hoped he wouldn't come out too disfigured. Well, I'd say he looks pretty good. And here's a shot that shows his little tail:

If you're a semi-experienced knitter, this is a great, satisfying project that took about a week to complete.

Easter (part II)

So we're going to skip dinner and go straight to dessert - because I'm new to blogging and didn't remember to take pictures of everything...

We made sabayon, strawberries with a warm custard. It was good and different from what I might usually make. We wanted to make a lighter dessert since we knew we'd be pretty full from dinner, and it worked out well - it was relatively fast and low key and not too filling. However, even though I enjoyed it and appreciated trying something new, there was part of me that wished I had a piece of chocolate cake in front of me.

What is your dessert of choice for Easter?

Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

A few years ago we started a tradition of having Easter dinner with friends, and I thought showing some pictures of our feast would be the perfect way to officially start this blog.

We decided to grill most of the meal, so we had appetizers and cocktails outside while the grilling was happening. That way, the person grilling doesn't miss any of the celebration.

We used a cocktail recipe from Martha Stewart. It was perfect for spring, and I loved the floating pansy in each glass! It calls for Lillet Rose which I could not find anywhere, so I used Whispering Angel (another rosé the guy at Binny's suggested). I'd also like to try and find some vintage looking Champagne coupes for the next time I make these.

More on our Easter feast later...
